What did the druggie say?

Monday, February 25th, 2008

When a person withdraws from a drug that causes physical dependence, they have what is called abstinence syndrome. If you watch the show Intervention you may know what some of the symptoms are. Not pleasant to say the least.

One symptom is “gooseflesh” and that is where the term cold turkey came from. Another symptom is kicking movements because of the muscle pain and spasms, hence the term “kicking the habit.”

Morphine was named after Morpheus, the Greek god of dreams. Probably because of the euphoric effect this drug can have. That and it is used for all kinds of stuff, not just to get high :)
