Career Change…..Sort Of

Monday, August 13th, 2007

I had a recent epiphany about where I want my life to go. I had a professor last semester tell me that I should not simply stop at being an RN and that I should go to medical school. That stroked my ego, but also got me thinking. Why in the hell not? I mean, what harm would come to me? Not like getting a good education is going to kill me. I just did not know what kind of doctor I might want to be.

While in Florida I was watching a show on Discovery Health, Dr. G Medical Examiner, and decided that I am most likely going to be an M.E. I had told my grandma about 7 yrs. ago that this is what I wanted to do, but she said, “Well, you have to be a pathologist and that means med school.” That stopped me dead in my tracks. I did not want to spend all that time in school, but now, what else do I have to do with my time? I mean, really? What the hell!

Now you know. I will finish my four year in two years and work for a while. Of course if I discover that I can go to med school, I might just do that. Only time will tell. I will have 4yrs. of med school, 3-5 yrs. as a resident studying pathology, and then one year of specialized training with an M.E.

Yeah, I should be done when I am approaching 40 or so, but at least I have goals, right?

As Promised…

Monday, August 13th, 2007

As I promised all three of you, I am going to give you a brief synopses of my Florida vacation.

Monday- Fly out of Milwaukee. We had plane issues and got delayed two hours. I have never in my life heard SO many people bitch. I guess they would have rather had the front landing tire explode when landing rather than wait the 2hrs. to have it fixed. Idiots! I wasn’t pleased, but I wanted to make it alive, so I was cool. Got a little lost in Orlando, but it was all good. Settled into our house, yes we had an entire house to ourselves. Three bedroom, two fully baths, two car garage, pool, etc. It was NICE!!

Tuesday- was going to chill with a friend at the beach, but that did not work out. Ended up going to Cocoa Beach anyhow. Had an awesome time. My son got a boogie board and rocked it ASAP. My mom had never been to the ocean, so that was cool to let her experience that. Dropped some cash at Ron Jon. Went home and swam in the pool for the rest of the evening.

Wednesday- SeaWorld welcomed us on Wednesday. Had a great time. My mom did not do so well with the hot weather, but she was a trooper and we saw all the animals and the Shamu show. I highly recommend going there when you get a chance. The show was bad ass and it was just a neat experience for all of us. My son and I rode on the roller coasters and that was of course fun. None of the lines had major waits! Even better. Met with a friend for dinner just outside of Orlando. Had some tasty food and great conversation.

Thursday- Another day at Cocoa Beach at my son’s request. He LOVES playing in the ocean. So much in fact, I told him if we can vacation next year, we will just stay by the ocean and chillax by the beach for a week. He thought that was a good plan. I became pretty good at body surfing and got toasted up!! I used sunscreen, but I am the WHITEST white girl you will ever meet, so it did not help a ton (see pics on MySpace). It was an awesome day and I could have spend 5 more like it. This was the first time I have ever gotten in the ocean and played. Wish I would have done it sooner. Oh well.

Friday- Bush Gardens. Wow, there is a lot to see there and a ton of rides to ride. Some of the really cool stuff cost extra, so we opted not to do that. We just enjoyed what was included with our admission. My son and I rode all the cool rides and he rode a few w/o me. The best was the Sheikra. They closed it about 2 rides before our turn. My son was NOT going to leave line, so we waited it out. We only waited for about 20min and we got right on the first ride!! It was an experience to say the least. We got a DVD to remember our ride!! Friday night we returned to SeaWorld to watch Shamu Rocks. Man, that was an AWESOME show! Way better than the daytime show. Totally worth going back a second time for.

Saturday- was going to be our relaxing day and we did, but my son told me a few days before that he saw the Our Body:The Universe Within billboard. I was told before about such exhibit, but never thought I could go. Yeah, I got the chance on Saturday. It was the BEST experience I have had since my anatomy class. Holy cow!! Words really cannot describe how cool this exhibit really is. We did not rent headsets, but that was mainly because I knew (for the most part) what I was looking at. Saturday night we went to a Medieval Dinner Show and that was way cool as well. My son got WAY into cheering for our knight :) The food was not super, but the experience was worth the money spent.

Sunday- trip home. Things went real smooth on the way home!!

Well that was my trip in a really small nutshell. If you want to know more, ask me and you can see a small bit of the pictures on my MySpace profile.
